The BA (Hons) Business Administration with
specialist pathways aims to provide a flexible
comprehensive educational programme at
undergraduate level which progresses from
basic disciplines through functional areas to
specialist pathways.
The programme is designed as an
inter-disciplinary programme of study that
builds upon a sound academic underpinning
leading to an understanding of the functional
elements of business.
As a result the curriculum is a blend of
theoretical and applied courses, focusing on
business management.
Programme Aims
An Honours graduate will have developed an understanding of a complex body of knowledge, some of it at the current
boundaries of an academic discipline. Through this, the graduate will have developed analytical techniques and
problem-solving skills that can be applied in many types of employment.
The graduate will be able to evaluate evidence, arguments and assumptions, to reach sound judgements, and to communicate effectively. An Honours graduate should have the qualities needed for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility, and decision-making in complex and unpredictable circumstances. [2]
The programme is delivered within a modular scheme, which allows credit accumulation and flexibility in the student learning process.
Programme Summary
The program consists of two semesters at level 4, two semesters at level 5 and a final two semesters at level 6. Students study four modules in each semester with each module being worth 15 credits, which is equivalent to about 150 hours of study. For most modules the level of direct face-to-face teaching contact accounts for approximately one-third of the hours associated with the module, the remaining hours being devoted to tutor-guided and independent reading and research, structured activities, and assessment preparation, implementation and completion. The final degree classification will normally be based upon the average marks achieved for both level 5 and level 6, with level 5 average weighted at 40% and level 6 weighted at 60%.
